What would you if you did not have twitter? Browsing through this afternoon, I just spotted a tweet from @amndasalt so i stopped and read (as her tweets are also good!). I was even more interested when I saw Dobble (see picture right) being mentioned.
Dobble is a game which we have been playing at home but which can easily be brought into the classroom. Anyhow, another teacher spotted it and asked if it could be used in Irish class.
Dobble is a set of cards (55 of them) (I am sure it would also make a great class for maths teachers on probability of seeing an object) with different symbols. Each card is different. So far I have been using it to extend vocabulary. Here are a few ideas:
Idea 1: Use it as a I'm finished activity, what's next? Deal a few cards and ask the students to find how to say the name of 5 objects in the target language.
Idea 2: In pair, students deal the cards and play snap. But instead of saying snap, they say the name of the object in the target language.
Idea 3: In pair or 3s, students compare their cards and with the symbols they have in common (at least 2 symbols) they must make us a sentence or a story (depending on time or level)
Idea 4: in pairs or 3s, one student picks a card and others must ask questions (good for working on question making) to discover the symbols. They can only be yes/no questions or they must not be yes/no.
Idea 5: To do some dictionary work and work on gender of word, have a competition the card with most masculine words, or feminine words or beginning with certain letters....
So today it got better as Amanda found a site which allows you to make your own cards! Amanda has made some for working on prepositions. Click here to have a look. To make your own, click here. And what is even better is sharing! So you have access to ready made ones here. But Amanda suggested, let's swap the ones we make! So next time you go and make a set, don't forget to tag @amandasalt, @sandrinepk and @MissAmor2015 on Twitter and share!!! We will too!
